When diabolical genius Dr. Evil travels back in time to steal superspy Austin Powers's ‘mojo,’ Austin must return to the swingin' '60s himself - with the help of American agent, Felicity Shagwell - to stop the dastardly plan. Once there, Austin faces off against Dr. Evil's army of minions to try to save the world in his own unbelievably groovy way.
What's left behind the scenes
- Filming in the movie saved Heather Graham from a role as a porn star. The offer to audition came at a time when Graham, who hadn't filmed anything noteworthy for almost a year and a half, was ready to play the lead role in a film about lesbian love. After receiving a fee from Jay Roach for filming, the actress first bought a copy of a porn film she was considering taking a role in.
- When Dr. Evil tosses the mascot into the air, in the scene of the two Austin Powers running, the voiceover was done in slow motion, and Felicia speaks in the voice of Will Ferrell, or rather, screams: “Look out!” – right before the Powers collide.
- Becky Dyroen-Lancer, captain of the US synchronized swimming team who won gold medals at the 1996 Olympic Games, served as the choreographer in the synchronized swimming scene at the beginning of the film.
- The entire film was shot in Southern California.
- When Mike Myers and Heather Graham's characters are driving in a car, Austin notices that the British countryside is nothing like the landscape in California.
