Short description
When two brothers organize the robbery of their parents' jewelry store, the job goes horribly wrong, triggering a series of events that send them and their family hurtling towards a shattering climax.

- The film's original title translates literally as "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead." This is a quote from a traditional Irish toast, which reads: 'May you always have food and clothing, and a soft pillow under your head; and may you be forty years in heaven before the devil knows you're dead.'
- Sidney Lumet altered the original screenplay slightly at his discretion. For example, in the initial version of the script, Andrew and Hank were not brothers, and Gina and Andrew Hanson had a child.
