Short description
Suzu is a 17-year-old high-school student living in a rural town with her father. Wounded by the loss of her mother at a young age, Suzu one day discovers the massive online world "U" and dives into this alternate reality as her avatar, Belle. Before long, all of U's eyes are fixed on Belle, when, suddenly, a mysterious, dragon-like figure appears before her.

- The original title can be translated as 'The Dragon and the Freckled Princess'.
- The florist Megumi Sinodzaki designed two outfits for the main character – a pink bud dress and a burgundy dress for the performance on the whale.
- The film received a 14-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival.
- The idea for the cartoon was born from director Mamoru Hosoda's anxieties about what growing up holds for his daughter.
