Short description

Shaun lives a supremely uneventful life, which revolves around his girlfriend, his mother, and, above all, his local pub. This gentle routine is threatened when the dead return to life and make strenuous attempts to snack on ordinary Londoners.

What's left behind the scenes

  • To fill the roles of zombie extras, the filmmakers recruited their fans—specifically, fans of the series 'Spaced' (1999-2001), which also starred Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and was also directed by Edgar Wright.
  • On the film's tenth anniversary, director Edgar Wright published a brief description and his impressions of each filming day on his website.
  • The film is included in Quentin Tarantino’s top twenty films.
  • The film's original tagline was: 'A romantic comedy. With zombies.'
  • On the film's tenth anniversary, director Edgar Wright published a brief description and his impressions of each day of filming on his website.
  • All the news shown on television was read by real presenters.
  • The film is among Quentin Tarantino's top twenty favorite movies.
  • The Italian restaurant Fulci, which Sean calls, is a reference to Italian horror film director Lucio Fulci.
  • Filming took place in London from May to July 2003 and lasted 57 days, with at least part of it in the New Cross and Hornsey areas, after which the filmmakers moved to the Ealing Studios soundstage. The final scene in the shed was filmed on day 6, in the middle of another scene, in order to save the film's budget. Filming at the 'Winchester' pub took 4 days.
  • While making 'Shaun of the Dead,' Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg were inspired by the films of George A. Romero, particularly 'Night of the Living Dead.'
  • George A. Romero was so impressed by the film that he invited Simon and Edgar to play zombies in the movie 'Land of the Dead'.
  • Members of the British rock band Coldplay, Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland, appeared in the film wearing t-shirts for the charity 'Zombie Aid.' They also appear as zombies themselves, chasing the main characters near the Winchester pub.
