Short description
A rookie cop is assigned to the 118 Precinct in the same district where he grew up. The Precinct Captain starts receiving letters about two unsolved murders that happened many years ago in the housing projects when the rookie cop was just a kid. These letters bring back bad memories and old secrets that begin to threaten his career and break up his family.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film is based on an unpublished novel by Dito Montiel.
- Robert De Niro was originally cast as Detective Stanford, but was replaced by Al Pacino.
- The character of journalist Loren Bridges, played by Juliette Binoche, was originally a man – Larry Bridges. Binoche agreed to take on the role on the condition that none of the 'male' dialogue would be changed.
- Terrence Howard was originally cast to play Vincent Carter, but was replaced by Tracy Morgan.
- The fact that director Dito Montiel played in a New York hardcore band is clearly reflected in his choice of posters: the first, from the 70s, is a poster of the London punk band X-Ray Spex, which hangs in the hallway of young Milk's apartment and that of his friends; the second, from the 80s, is a poster of the Los Angeles hardcore punk band Circle Jerks in Milk's dwelling; the third, from the 80s, is a poster of the hardcore band M.D.C. from San Francisco, which hangs in the police station.
