Short description

Abandoned by her family, Kya raises herself all alone in the marshes outside of her small town. When her former boyfriend is found dead, Kya is instantly branded by the local townspeople and law enforcement as the prime suspect for his murder.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Chase sings “Long Black Veil” to Daisy Edgar-Jones, a folk ballad by Lefty Frizzell (1928-1975) from 1959 about a man who refuses to provide an alibi for people who unjustly accuse him of murder.
  • Preparing for filming, British actress Daisy Edgar-Jones practiced her lines with a linguist named Frances Brown.
  • Daisy Edgar-Jones came to the audition with footage she filmed herself on the set of the series "War of the Worlds" (2019–).
  • The film is based on Delia Owens' 2018 novel, and the film's protagonist is accused of murder. Shortly after the film's release, Zambian authorities announced they wanted to question Delia Owens and her ex-husband Mark regarding the 1995 murder of a suspected poacher. It is known that as of 2022, the old case regarding the murder of the suspected poacher remained open, as Zambia has no statute of limitations on murder cases.
