Initially, Anne Hathaway was considered for the role of Miss Trunchbull, but due to COVID restrictions, she withdrew from the project, and it was then decided to find a British actress.
Mara Wilson, who played the title role in Danny DeVito's 1996 comedy, turned down an offer for a cameo, stating that she did not want to travel all the way to England for a single day of filming. Similarly, Pam Ferris declined a cameo appearance, reportedly because she was busy rehearsing for a theater production.
