Short description
Extremely shy Lars finds it impossible to make friends or socialize. His brother and sister-in-law worry about him, so when he announces that he has a girlfriend he met on the Internet, they are overjoyed. But Lars' new lady is a life-size plastic woman. On the advice of a doctor, his family and the rest of the community go along with his delusion.
What's left behind the scenes
- To help Ryan Gosling get into character, the doll was treated like a real person, as it was in the film itself. She had her own trailer where she was dressed, and she was only present on set when her scenes were being filmed.
- The scene where Lars and Bianca arrive at the house where the party was taking place was entirely improvised by Ryan Gosling (Lars). The moment when Lars performs CPR on the bear is also an improvisation.
- To avoid any suspicion of sexual activity with the doll, Bianca was custom-made without genitalia.
- To help Ryan Gosling immerse himself in the role, the doll was treated as a real person, just as in the movie itself. It had its own separate trailer where it was dressed, and it was present on set only when its scenes were being filmed.
- The scene in which Lars and Bianca arrive at the house where the party was taking place was completely improvised by Ryan Gosling (Lars). The moment where Lars performs CPR on the bear was also an improvisation.
