Short description

After a remote diamond mine collapses in far northern Canada, an ice road driver must lead an impossible rescue mission over a frozen ocean to save the trapped miners.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Jonathan Hensley wanted the audience to see only live backgrounds, so he refused to use chroma key and composite shots. However, this created a problem – where to place the camera so that the driver, passengers, and background were all visible in the frame. As a result, bodies of new Kenworth trucks were installed on Ford F-550 pickup trucks. Stunt drivers sat at the bottom, and actors at the top. Meanwhile, a real landscape passed by the windows.
  • The film was shot in the Canadian province of Manitoba.
  • Kenworth W990 trucks are used for most of the film, but in some scenes, an older and cheaper Kenworth T680 model can be seen in their place.
  • The film was shot on a real ice road, often during snowstorms and at temperatures of -40°C.
