Short description
A young girl, passionate about fashion design, is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer. But 1960s London is not what it seems, and time seems to be falling apart with shady consequences.
What's left behind the scenes
- From the very beginning, director Edgar Wright knew that he had to shoot exclusively on location rather than searching for similar neighborhoods or creating sets in studio pavilions. It was extremely difficult to resolve an immense number of logistical issues, as many retail outlets in Soho operate 24/7. Wright himself compared shooting on location in London to the labors of Hercules and consistently emphasized the assistance provided to the crew by local authorities. Above all else, it was necessary to ensure that the cars appearing in the shots, the characters' clothing, and the shop windows were consistent with the 1960s era.
- This was the final role of Margaret Nolan, who passed away from cancer on October 5, 2020. The film is dedicated to her memory.
- The idea for the film 'Last Night in Soho' (2021) first occurred to director Edgar Wright in 2007. He outlined the plot to producers Nira Park and Rachel Prior shortly before beginning work on the sci-fi comedy 'The World's End' (2013). Wright grew up in Somerset and, as a child, often listened to the memories of his parents, whose youth coincided with the 1960s, and literally fell in love with that era. This fascination was fueled in no small part by their record collection, which, by his own admission, made him 'literally dissolve into that decade' while listening.
- While preparing Thomasin McKenzie for the role of Eloise, Edgar Wright compiled a list of 50 mandatory films for her to watch (the list also included several films that Wright himself was fond of). McKenzie later said that she watched them all, except for one – the horror film "Suspiria" (Luca Guadagnino, 2018), written by Dario Argento, who had a huge influence on Wright’s own work.
