Short description

Nothing is as it seems when a woman experiencing misgivings about her new boyfriend joins him on a road trip to meet his parents at their remote farm.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Director Charlie Kaufman wanted to use a real pig in the scene with the naked janitor, but found out that pigs cannot walk on wet floors or turn their heads. The pig had to be created using computer programs.
  • According to director and screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, Netflix management did not allow the filmmakers to shoot the film with an aspect ratio of 1.37:1, fearing that viewers would mistakenly believe there was something wrong with their televisions.
  • Initially, Brie Larson was cast in the role ultimately played by Jessie Buckley, but she soon left the project to focus on filming the science fiction action films 'Captain Marvel' (2019) by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, and 'Avengers: Endgame' (2019) by the Russo brothers.
  • One of the wigs worn by Toni Collette in the film was originally made for the filming of the first season of the series 'Stranger Things' (2016-). The same wig was also used during the filming of the miniseries 'Madoff: The Monster of Wall Street' (2023).
  • The nameless girl's clothing changes as the phone subscriber changes. Lucy wears a knitted black and orange sweater, Louise a knitted jumper, Yvonne long-sleeved blouses and dresses. The position of Jake's father's bandage and his mother's hairstyle also change.
  • After spending some time in a refrigerated truck, the janitor undresses completely. This is a sign of hypothermia – a person begins to feel unbearable heat.
