Beth Reekles was 15 years old when she began posting "The Kissing Booth" on Wattpad, a website for a community of readers and writers. The story attracted the attention of Penguin Random House publishing there.
While corresponding with Elle, Noah reads "Cousin Bette" (1842), a novel by French writer Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850), in the library, which is part of his "The Human Comedy". The book is a mass-market paperback edition from the Penguin Classics series published by Penguin Books, translated by Donald Adamson.
An arrangement of the song "Don't You (Forget About Me)" by the Scottish rock band Simple Minds plays at the graduation ceremony. The same song is featured in John Hughes' teen dramedy "The Breakfast Club" (1985). Actress, singer, and writer Molly Ringwald starred in both films.
