Short description

Forced into exile by the English after being crowned King of Scotland, legendary warrior Robert the Bruce fights to reclaim the throne.

What's left behind the scenes

After the film was shown at the Toronto Film Festival, director David Mackenzie decided to cut it by 20 minutes.
Some scenes of the film were shot in the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. As a result of the constant Anglo-Scottish Wars, over the period from 1296 to 1482, the town changed hands between England and Scotland 13 times. This first happened during the lifetime of Robert I of Scotland (1274-1329).
The initial version of the film lasted over 4 hours.
