Short description
A television program is interupted by a news network announcing that three meteors have hit the United States, France and China. At first it seems natural but after interviews by scientists and eyewitness seems to suggest that it is not. Three more meteors are coming and the various Earth governments combine forces to stop them.
What's left behind the scenes
- The news anchor was played by TV journalist Sander Vanocur. After the film's release, viewers began to complain, taking what was shown at face value. CNN officially banned its journalists and anchors from playing themselves in cinema.
- The film premiered on October 30, 1994, the anniversary of Orson Welles' famous 1938 radio broadcast 'The War of the Worlds', which served as a source of inspiration for the screenwriters.
- At the beginning of the film, a town in Wyoming is mentioned. In Orson Welles' radio broadcast, the first cylinder with Martians on board landed in a town with the exact same name, but in the state of New Jersey.
