Short description

What's left behind the scenes

The film is based on Robin Maugham's novel "The Servant" (1948).
During filming, Losey was hospitalized. Dirk Bogarde took over as director and filmed several episodes, following instructions given by Losey from his hospital bed over the phone. When Losey returned to the set and reviewed the footage, he did not reshoot a single episode.
