Short description

Carnivorous aliens arrive unannounced at a Kansas family farm; two intergalactic bounty hunters soon follow, determined to blow them off the planet.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Cory Burton (born Corey Gregg Weinberg), who voices the Gremlins, invented their language himself. According to him, it is a mixture of French and Japanese.
  • The film was advertised as a response from New Line Cinema to the release of Gremlins (1984), which Joe Dante directed for Warner Bros. However, it should be noted that the script for Critters was written before Gremlins was released. The script was based on a childhood nightmare that future film director Steven Herek once had.
  • The characters of Don Keith Opper and Terence Mann are the only ones to appear in all four films of the franchise.
  • When the critters destroy everything in the bedroom, one of them discovers and devours a figurine of the alien from Steven Spielberg's film of the same name (1982).
