Short description
Two women, Nic and Jules, brought a son and daughter into the world through artificial insemination. When one of their children reaches age, both kids go behind their mothers' backs to meet with the donor. Life becomes so much more interesting when the father, two mothers and children start to become attached to each other.
What's left behind the scenes
- In portraying his character, Mark Ruffalo depicted his own brother, who passed away shortly before filming began. Ruffalo was so disillusioned with his acting career that he seriously considered retraining as a director. He abandoned the idea of leaving acting after seeing how audiences received this film.
- Filming took 23 days, and the filmmakers were in a hurry to present their work at the Sundance Film Festival. They submitted their application to the festival late, but the film still became one of the event's hits.
- Mark Ruffalo filmed all his scenes in 6 days.
- Julianne Moore received the script and agreed to star in the film five years before filming began.
- Robin Wright was considered for the role of Nick.
- The film is based on the story of the relationship between director Lisa Cholodenko and her partner Wendy, who had sons through artificial insemination. Cholodenko dedicated this film to her sons.
