- In 2000, the animated film "The Old Man and the Sea" became the first animated film in history intended for large-format IMAX theaters.
- Before this film, Alexander Petrov worked with A4-sized canvases, but this film was created specifically for the "IMAX" format, so the glass "canvas" was four times larger than A4.
- Alexander Petrov created the film in Montreal (Canada). The process took 2.5 years.
- Each frame was created using slowly drying oil paint on a glass "canvas." Director Alexander Petrov painted with his fingers and photographed the results.
- Alexander Petrov drew the main character of the cartoon with his father-in-law.
