Short description

Two high school girls are best friends until one dates the other's older brother, who is totally his sister's nemesis.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Kelly Fremon’s directorial debut.
  • Actor Woody Harrelson came up with many of his character's quirks directly on the set.
  • The original script was titled "Best Friends". It focused more on the comedic aspect of events and on the friendship between Nadine and Krista, rather than friendship being a defining characteristic of Nadine's life. This script did not include Mr. Bruner, played by Woody Harrelson; Nadine was named Nadine Hamidi Yusefa Rostami (her full name); her mother's boyfriend was portrayed differently (and had lines); there was no mention of her father's death; Nick was Dan, a football player (and he also had lines); and Erwin was a futurist, not a future director. The film ended with a graduation scene.
  • Nick, played by Alexander Calvert, tries to remember the 2010 song "Big Jet Plane" by Angus & Julia Stone.
  • Nadine wears a t-shirt with the inscription "Taktoyaktuk University." Taktoyaktuk (Port-Brabant until 1950) is a village in the Northwest Territories of Canada. It is the first settlement in Canada to have its traditional Indigenous name restored. In 2011, the village had a population of 854 people.
  • Kelly Fremon's directorial debut.
  • Actor Woody Harrelson improvised many of his character's jokes right on set.
  • The original screenplay was titled "Best Friends." It focused more on the comedic aspect of the events and the friendship between Nadine and Krista, rather than friendship being just one of the nuances characterizing Nadine's life. In this script, there was no Mr. Brunner, the teacher played by Woody Harrelson; Nadine's full name was Nadine Hamidi Youseff Rostami; her mother's friend was portrayed differently (and had lines); there was no mention of the father's death; Nick was a football player named Dan (who also had lines), and Erwin was a futurist rather than an aspiring director. The film ended with a graduation scene.
