Short description

Two lifelong friends navigate complex sexual encounters and emotional entanglements, wrestling with societal norms and personal desires.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Only after viewing and rejecting many other actresses proposed for the role of Bobby did Mike Nichols (1931-2014) agree to look at Ann-Margret in "Kitten with a Whip" (1964).
  • In the state of Georgia, a manager of one of the cinemas was convicted of obscenity for showing the film (this occurred in 1971). Three years later, the US Supreme Court ruled the law unconstitutional, and the man was acquitted.
  • The waltz played on the organ during the skating scene is "Komm mit mir, ich' tanz mit dir" by Imre Kálmán (1882-1953) from the operetta "The Gypsy Premier" (1912).
  • The search for an actress to play Bobby took six months.
  • The scene of the argument between Jack Nicholson and Ann-Margret took a whole week to film. By the end of filming, both actors had lost their voices.
