Short description

Set during the unsettling disappearances in Buenos Aires during the dictatorship of the 1970s, the film involves theater director Carlos Rueda and his wife Cecilia. Shortly after Cecilia writes an editorial commentary questioning the mysterious abductions, she is herself abducted and taken into police custody.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Two scenes were added during filming: an argument about the publication of Cecilia’s article and a flashback explaining why the main characters got married. There was a competition between Christopher Hampton and Emma Thompson. Ultimately, Emma’s additions proved to be a better fit.
  • The film is based on the novel of the same name by Laurence Thornton.
