Short description
In 1986 Iran, Sahebjam, whose car breaks down in a remote village, enters into a conversation with Zahra, who relays to him the story about her niece, Soraya, whose arranged marriage to an abusive tyrant ended in tragedy.
What's left behind the scenes
- An Iranian court officially introduced a moratorium on stoning in 2002.
- The film is based on the novel of the same name by Franco-Iranian journalist Fereydoun Sahebjam, published in 1994. This novel is banned in Iran due to its "critical attitude towards the Islamic value system".
- In the prison where the relevant scenes were to be filmed, a prisoner riot broke out the day before filming began, forcing the crew to shoot not on location, but on specially constructed sets.
