Initially, Nicolas Cage was cast in the lead role, but the start of filming was postponed several times, and Cage left the project. The role went to John Travolta.
The film's slogan, "And I will wreak great vengeance upon them," is a phrase repeatedly uttered by Samuel L. Jackson's character in Quentin Tarantino's black comedy "Pulp Fiction" (1994), where John Travolta plays his partner.
