What's left behind the scenes
- Principal photography began in early August 2015 in London. Scenes on the planet Scarif were filmed on the Laamu Atoll in the Maldives, and filming also took place in Iceland and Jordan.
- To create the necessary atmosphere, director Gareth Edwards and cinematographer Greig Fraser dusted off lenses used in the 1970s and fitted them into modern digital cameras.
- The idea for the film came from John Knoll, head of visual effects at ILM. He received a mention in the credits as one of the story authors and also served as an executive producer of the film.

- Many fans will recognize the Rebel base on the planet Yavin 4, which first appeared on screen in the film 'Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.' Due to financial constraints, Lucas was only able to build a portion of the base, creating the sense of scale using the visual effects available at the time. The creators of 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' could afford to build the Rebel base in its entirety. The film crew visited the legendary location—the original Yavin 4 set at Cardington Airfield in the UK. The massive hangars allowed artists and set designers to create a full-scale Yavin 4 base, measuring approximately 106 meters in length and 61 meters in width.

- The Yavin 4 set in the hangar was built and decorated on all sides, and even the off-camera crew had to be dressed in costumes.
