Short description

A small town policeman must investigate a suspicious hunting accident. The investigation and other events result in him slowly disintegrating mentally.

What's left behind the scenes

James Coburn (1928-2002) had already ended his acting career when he was approached with an offer to star in this film. The actor agreed.
Meeting with James Coburn before filming began, director Paul Schrader warned him about the responsibility and advised him to prepare properly, to which he replied: "So, I have to act? No problem. I'm rarely asked to play myself, but I can if I have to."
