River was so in love with Samantha that he asked the film's director, Peter Bogdanovich, who was a close friend of his, to include as many romantic scenes with Samantha as possible in the film. As Bogdanovich recalled, the actors simply couldn't take their eyes off each other, and River was on cloud nine.
