Short description
Jerry Mulligan is an exuberant American expatriate in Paris trying to make a reputation as a painter. His friend Adam is a struggling concert pianist who's a long time associate of a famous French singer, Henri Baurel. A lonely society woman, Milo Roberts, takes Jerry under her wing and supports him, but is interested in more than his art.
What's left behind the scenes
- Despite Gene Kelly's insistence on filming in Paris, the film was shot at the MGM studio in California, where 44 sets were specially built. Only two shots were filmed in Paris, and neither included Kelly.
- Although Vincente Minnelli (1903-1986) is credited as the sole director in the credits, others sometimes fulfilled the director's duties. Minnelli was at times preoccupied with his divorce from Judy Garland (1922-1969) and other projects, with Gene Kelly (1912-1996) taking on directorial responsibilities.
