Short description

Three childhood friends, Martha, Walter and Sam, share a terrible secret. Over time, the ambitious Martha and the pusillanimous Walter have married. She is a cold businesswoman; he is the district attorney: a perfect combination to dominate the corrupt city of Iverstown at will. But the unexpected return of Sam, after years of absence, deeply disturbs the life of the odd couple.

What's left behind the scenes

  • This film marked Kirk Douglas's cinematic debut.
  • The film had two working titles — Strange Love and Bleeding Lies of Love.
  • In an interview with the Sun Mirror newspaper, director Lewis Milestone stated that he would never work with producer Hal Wallis again, as a conflict occurred between them during filming – Wallis demanded that some scenes be reshot and that a closer shot of actress Elizabeth Scott be made. • The film is in the public domain in the United States.
