Short description
Julie, a daydreaming librarian, meets Céline, an enigmatic magician, and together they become the heroines of a time-warping adventure involving a haunted house, psychotropic candy, and a murder-mystery melodrama.
What's left behind the scenes
- It is commonly believed that much of this film is improvised, but this isn't entirely true. Director Jacques Rivette, having developed the film's structure, did not allow the actors to improvise, but instead involved them in working on the script. The only scene built on improvisation is the one where Celine brags to her friends about her wealthy American girlfriend. All other scenes were filmed strictly according to the text written by Rivette in collaboration with the lead actresses. The actresses wrote their own lines, while Rivette outlined the connections between the characters and scenes.
