Short description

An artist falls for a married young woman while he's commissioned to paint her portrait. The two invest in the risky tulip market in hopes to build a future together.

What's left behind the scenes

Negotiations for the lead role were held with Matthias Schoenaerts, but the actor declined the offer and the role went to Dane DeHaan.
The film is based on the novel of the same name by Deborah Moggach.
Producer Harvey Weinstein offered the role of Matvey to singer Harry Styles, but he couldn't find the time to film, and Matthew Morrison was cast in the role.
The film is set in the Netherlands, and all the characters are Dutch. Filming took place in the UK, and none of the actors are Dutch.
