Short description
A young undercover FBI agent infiltrates a gang of thieves who share a common interest in extreme sports. A remake of the 1991 film, "Point Break".
What's left behind the scenes
- In the 1991 film, James LeGros played one of the former presidents. In the remake, he appeared as an FBI agent.
- James LeGros appears in both the original film and the remake.
- Gerard Butler was the first to be cast in the role. He was supposed to play Bodhi, the leader of a group of extreme sports enthusiasts. Butler had to withdraw from the project due to a busy work schedule.
- Bo Jesse Christopher, who plays the FBI Director, also appeared in the 1991 film. There, he played Grommet, one of the surfing robbers who wore a mask of President Lyndon Johnson.
- Tom Hardy, Colin Farrell, Hugh Jackman, Chris Hemsworth, and Garrett Hedlund were candidates for the role of Bodhi.
- Taylor Kitsch, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chris Pine, Chris Pratt, and Sam Claflin were candidates for the role of Johnny Utah.
- The helmets worn by the criminals during their operations were adorned with caricatures of presidents – as a tribute to the original film.
- Some scenes were filmed in Venezuela at Angel Falls, which has a continuous freefall of 807 meters (the highest waterfall in the world). Edgar Ramirez, who played Bodhi, was born in Venezuela.
- Actress Theresa Palmer, who plays Samsara, has a son named Bodhi Rain. The film's main character is also named Bodhi.
- This is Theresa Palmer's first role since the birth of her son, yet she performs almost all of the stunts in the film herself.
- Even before filming of the remake began, there was an idea to film a sequel to "Point Break." It would have been set in Indonesia, and Australian actor Damien Walsh-Howling was considered for the lead role. In fact, the sequel would only have been related to the original film by the combination of a surfer-criminal. However, this project was eventually rejected.
- Edgar Ramirez, who played Bodhi, starred in "Zero Dark Thirty" directed by Kathryn Bigelow, who also directed the 1991 "Point Break".
- Edgar Ramirez and Ray Winstone both played the god Ares in films based on ancient Greek myths. Ramirez appeared in "Wrath of the Titans," and Winstone in "Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief".
- Director Ericson Corr worked as a cinematographer on the set of "The Fast and the Furious," which has much in common with the film "Point Break" (1991).
