Short description

Before horror enthusiast Max can break things off with his girlfriend Evelyn she dies in a bus accident. In time, Max meets another woman only to have Evelyn resurface as a zombie ready to resume their relationship.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Travis's zombie costume, as seen near the ice cream parlor at the end of the film, is a reference to Skip's costume from Ray Peterson's nightmare in Joe Dante's horror-comedy "Suburbia," released in 1989.
  • The role of the police officer was played by Dim Miller, an actor who appeared in all of Joe Dante's films.
  • A joke from the film's director, Joe Dante: the appearance of the bartender, played by Mark Alan Brown, is an exact copy of a character named Mortis from the Netflix miniseries Splatter (2009), produced by Roger Corman and directed by Joe Dante. The bartender in the film "My Girl is a Zombie" (2015) dresses like Mortis and even sports the same hairstyle.
  • Shortly after the beginning of the film, the viewer sees a van driving by with the inscription "Romero & Sons" on its side. This is a tribute to George A. Romero, the "godfather" of zombie films.
  • A horror film, "Night of the Fear" (Tom Holland, 1985), is on TV while Max and Evelyn are making love. Anton Yelchin, who played Max, starred in the comedic remake of the same name, directed by Craig Gillespie in 2011.
