What's left behind the scenes
- Notably, 81-year-old Cagney played Commissioner Reinlander Waldo, who was only 32 years old in 1910, when the film is set.
- Jack Nicholson appeared in this film in a cameo role, portraying a mustachioed pirate in a silent film.
- Mary Steenburgen was pregnant during filming, but this was not visible under her vintage costumes.
