Short description

After a harsh childhood, orphan Jane Eyre is hired by Edward Rochester, the brooding lord of a mysterious manor house to care for his young daughter.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on Charlotte Brontë’s novel *Jane Eyre* (1847).
  • Orson Welles (1915-1985) did so much for the project that there was even a suggestion to credit him as a producer, but Welles himself refused. He stated that, in his deep conviction, a person who does not direct a film should not be credited as a “mere” producer.
