Short description

An amnesiac World War I vet falls in love with a music hall star, only to suffer an accident which restores his original memories but erases his post-War life.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Ronald Colman (1891-1958), as part of the British Army, fought in World War I and participated in the Battle of Ypres in 1914, where he received serious shrapnel wounds. He was awarded for bravery and discharged from the army six months later.
  • Greer Garson (1904-1996) spent most of her time on set with her favorite cameraman, Joseph Ruttenberg (1889-1983). She particularly liked how he "played" with the light and understood that she looked best when filmed from the right side. Moreover, even the sets were often constructed to film her in a way that her asymmetrical facial features would be invisible to the audience.
