Short description

The story of former Hollywood star Grace Kelly's crisis of marriage and identity, during a political dispute between Monaco's Prince Rainier III and France's Charles De Gaulle, and a looming French invasion of Monaco in the early 1960s.

What's left behind the scenes

  • In 2011, the film's screenplay was on the Hollywood "Black List" of the most interesting unproduced screenplays of the year.
  • No one from the Grimaldi family (direct descendants of Prince and Princess Rainier) attended the film's premiere in Cannes. From the point of view of the heirs, the film greatly distorts the real history.
  • Filming of the picture began on September 12th in Menton, France. Filming also took place in Genoa, Italy.
  • The film was originally planned for release in the fall of 2013, but due to disagreements between director Olivier Dahan and distributor Harvey Weinstein regarding the final cut, the release was postponed.
  • Jessica Chastain, Emily Blunt, Charlize Theron, Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Rosamund Pike, Amy Adams, January Jones, and Elizabeth Banks were considered for the role of Grace Kelly.
  • The film was selected as the opening film of the Cannes Film Festival.
  • Coincidentally, filming began on the 30th anniversary of Grace Kelly's death.
  • According to Nicole Kidman, the film is not a biography, but explores the vulnerability and humanity of Grace Kelly.
