Short description
86-year-old Irving Zisman is on a journey across America with the most unlikely companion: his 8 year-old grandson, Billy.
What's left behind the scenes
- Despite his young age, Jackson Nicoll remained in character for almost the entire duration of filming.
- This is the first “Freaks” film in which people not from the “Freaks” team participated in writing the script. Screenwriters Fax Bahr and Adam Small previously wrote a parody of “Freaks” for their show MADtv.
- In the defecation scene, the smear on the wall appears after the grandfather has relieved himself. And the woman sitting behind Billy is initially not present. She appears when the grandfather and Billy get up, preparing to leave.
- Johnny Knoxville stated that his character, Irving Zisman, is a combination of his own father and a more twisted version of Johnny himself.
- Although scenes with Spike Jonze did not make it into the final version of the film, his name is listed in the end credits, and deleted scenes featuring him can be seen on DVD and Blu-ray.
