Short description
A father and his son walk alone through burned America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind and water. It is cold enough to crack stones, and, when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the warmer south, although they don't know what, if anything, awaits them there.
What's left behind the scenes
- Initially, Brad Pitt was considered for the role of the boy's father, but the actor declined the offer. The role went to Viggo Mortensen.
- Charlize Theron, who played the role of the protagonist's wife, admitted in an interview that she agreed to star in the film largely because she really liked Cormac McCarthy's book.
- At the 92nd minute, it is visible that a father and son are walking along the coast, with the sea on their right. However, according to the main character's map, to walk south the sea should be on their left.
- This film greatly inspired Naughty Dog in the development of the game The Last of Us.
- Most of the film's scenes were shot in Pennsylvania. Filming also took place in Louisiana and Oregon.
- The film is based on Cormac McCarthy's novel 'The Road' (2006), which earned its author the Pulitzer Prize in 2007.
