- Before filming came to an end, it had already become common knowledge throughout the studio that Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy had started a romance. Typically, in such situations, studio management tried to shut down such relationships; however, in this case, it was decided to simply remain silent and ignore it for two reasons. First, Hepburn and Tracy themselves tried not to publicize their affair. Second, it was clear that the romance with Hepburn helped Tracy keep his excessive fondness for alcohol more or less under control. When he suddenly relapsed, she often slept on the floor by the door to his room, waiting for things to calm down so she could go inside and help him recover before heading to the set.
