Short description

Set in the futuristic Metro City, Astro Boy (Atom) is a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant scientist in the image of the son he had lost. Unable to fulfill his creator's expectations, Astro embarks on a journey in search of acceptance, experiencing betrayal and a netherworld of robot gladiators, before returning to save Metro City and reconcile with the father who rejected him.

What's left behind the scenes

In 1999, Sony Pictures Entertainment acquired the rights from Tezuka Productions to produce a live-action film based on the Astro Boy manga. The film was to feature live actors and computer graphics, with production planned in collaboration with The Jim Henson Company. However, no news about the project has surfaced to date.
The character of Astro Boy has existed for half a century.
Scarlett Johansson was originally supposed to voice Cora, but for unknown reasons, she was replaced by Kristen Bell.
One of the characters, a scientist in the laboratory, resembles Astro Boy creator Osamu Tezuka: he wears horn-rimmed glasses and a beret.
In the headquarters of the "rebel robots," an image of V.I. Lenin with the inscription “Lenin” can be seen among the posters.
