Short description

An American girl, sent to the English countryside to stay with relatives, finds love and purpose while fighting for her survival as war envelops the world around her.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The original title of the film translates to "How I Live Now".
  • Saoirse Ronan did not dye her hair for the role. She wore a wig.
  • Director Kevin Macdonald initially intended to cast unknown actors for the film and was looking for a 16-year-old American girl for the role of Daisy. However, the role ultimately went to 19-year-old Irishwoman Saoirse Ronan, who read the scene she was given at the audition so powerfully that the entire committee was crying.
  • The film is based on Meg Rosoff's novel "How I Live Now" (2004).
  • Before George MacKay was cast as Edmund, only about ten people had auditioned for the role, each paired with Saoirse Ronan for their audition.
  • The man Daisy (Saoirse Ronan) shoots is the real father of the actress, Paul Ronan.
