Short description

A 707 aircraft jetliner, en route from Athens to Rome and then to New York City, is hijacked by Lebanese terrorists, who demand that the pilot take them to Beirut. What the terrorists don't realize is that an elite team of commandos have been called in to eliminate all terrorists on the jetliner.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Filming took place in Israel.
  • At the end of the film, the team flies away on an aircraft with an American flag on board, however, the aircraft's registration number begins with 4X. This is a code indicating Israeli ownership, while American military aircraft have different markings – white five-pointed stars.
  • The film is based on the real case of the hijacking of a Trans World Airlines aircraft on flight TWA-847 from Cairo to San Diego on June 14, 1985.
  • The film begins with a depiction of Operation Eagle Claw, the failed attempt to rescue American hostages held at the US embassy in Iran in 1980.
  • Lee Marvin's final film.
