Short description

Less than 24 hours into his parole, charismatic thief Danny Ocean is already rolling out his next plan: In one night, Danny's hand-picked crew of specialists will attempt to steal more than $150 million from three Las Vegas casinos. But to score the cash, Danny risks his chances of reconciling with ex-wife, Tess.

What's left behind the scenes

  • In the scene where Rusty (Brad Pitt) teaches celebrities to play poker, Joshua Jackson appears with the same skull ring that he wore in "Skeletons" (2000).
  • The role of Frank Catton, played by Bernie Mac, was originally intended for Danny Glover, but he preferred to star in 'The Royal Tenenbaums' (2001).
  • During filming, a barrel of Guinness beer was installed in George Clooney's dressing room.
  • Henry Silva and Angie Dickinson, who starred in "Ocean's 11" (1960), appeared in its remake in cameo roles (a fight scene).
  • Initially, Don Rickles was chosen for the role of Sol Bloom.
  • Warner Bros. paid $200,000 for the use of the house, where the character of Elliott Gould lives according to the plot, during filming.
  • Sidney Pollack and Dennis Franz were considered for the role of Reuben Tishkoff.
  • In the episode where Benedict reviews security camera footage provided by the robbers, the screen with the footage from the vault displays the numbers "... N 419". In the next shot, the screen of the same camera, still showing footage of the robbers, displays "... S 420".
  • John Favreau was offered to write the screenplay, but he declined.
  • Ewan McGregor was considered for the role of Basher.
  • Apart from Danny Ocean, the names of all other characters from the original film were changed in the remake.
  • 160 million dollars (the stolen amount) in $100 bills weighs 1.6 tons.
  • Film director Steven Soderbergh made a cameo appearance, playing one of the safe robbers.
  • Luke Wilson and Owen Wilson were supposed to play the brothers Virgil and Turk Malloy, but they were unable to film due to their involvement in the project 'The Royal Tenenbaums' (2001). These roles were ultimately played by Casey Affleck and Scott Caan.
  • Brad Pitt appears in this film with a fire tattoo on his left arm. The same tattoo was on George Clooney in "From Dusk Till Dawn" (1995).
  • Warren Beatty, Michael Douglas, and Ralph Fiennes were considered for the role of Terry Benedict.
  • Filming took place from February 11th to June 7th, 2001.
  • The final scene, in which the main characters stand in front of the fountain, imitates a famous episode from Philip Kaufman’s “The Right Stuff” (1983), where astronauts watch the performance of dancer Sally Rand.
  • The robbery supposedly takes place on the day of the Vladimir Klitschko vs. Lennox Lewis fight for the world boxing championship. In reality, Vitali, Vladimir's brother, fought Lewis on June 21, 2003.
  • The role of the pickpocket, which eventually went to Matt Damon, was originally intended for Mark Wahlberg.
  • Bruce Willis dropped out of the project due to being busy with other films.
  • Between takes, the actors played in the casino. Despite conflicting reports on who won more, Clooney managed to lose 25 hands of blackjack in a row.
