Short description

A Chechen Muslim illegally immigrates to Hamburg and becomes a person of interest for a covert government team tracking the movements of potential terrorists.

  • John le Carré’s novel, on which the film is based, is based on the real life of Murat Kurnaz, a Turkish citizen legally residing in Germany, who was arrested in Pakistan on suspicion of involvement in the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States. He was then sent to a US military base in Kandahar (Afghanistan), and then to Guantanamo Bay prison (Cuba), where he spent 5 years.
  • Amy Adams, Carey Mulligan, and Jessica Chastain were considered for the role of Annabel Richter.
  • On July 22, 2008, a 9-minute short film was released featuring John le Carré discussing his novel "The Most Wanted Man." The short film was directed by Simon Channing-Williams, who also produced the screen adaptation of another John le Carré novel — "The Constant Gardener" (2005).
  • Director Anton Corbijn appeared in a cameo role. He can be seen sitting next to Homayoun Ershadi (Abdullah) during the televised press conference.
