Short description

During a solo voyage in the Indian Ocean, a veteran mariner awakes to find his vessel taking on water after a collision with a stray shipping container. With his radio and navigation equipment disabled, he sails unknowingly into a violent storm and barely escapes with his life. With any luck, the ocean currents may carry him into a shipping lane -- but, with supplies dwindling and the sharks circling, the sailor is forced to face his own mortality.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The script was only 32 pages long.
  • This is the only film in over 100 years of international cinema history to feature only one actor and one writer/director, yet boasts eleven executive producers and another six producers of various specialties.
  • When the protagonist uses the radio transmitter, he speaks into the wrong side. The microphone is on the opposite side, and he is speaking into the metal casing.
  • When the hero's boat first capsizes during the storm, it can be noticed that one of the portholes is open. Because of this, a large amount of water should have entered the boat, but it isn't there.
  • After the hero stops shaving, for the next eight days – most of which he spends fighting for his life in an inflatable life raft – his face remains smooth, without any signs of stubble.
