What's left behind the scenes
- According to the script, it was supposed to be raining during the farewell scene at the train station between Beatrix Potter and Norman Warne. Ewan McGregor suggested treating the outerwear with glycerin to give it the appearance of being soaked, but costume designer Anthony Powell had a different opinion. He insisted that the actors be genuinely sprayed with water. To avoid getting cold, McGregor had to wear a thin wetsuit under his outerwear.
- Renée Zellweger was convinced from the very beginning that Ewan McGregor would be the best fit for the role of the main character.
- The film features the home of the main character near Coniston in the Lake District of Cumbria. The Potters actually owned it in the 1930s.
