Short description
Anne Elliot was once in love with Frederick Wentworth, a commander in the Royal Navy who was rejected by her snobby parents eight years ago. When the family hits hard times and are forced to rent out their mansion to his brother-in-law, Frederick returns as a captain - but will he remember Anne?
What's left behind the scenes
- After being cast as Anne Elliot, Sally Hawkins reread all of Jane Austen's works (who is credited as a screenwriter in the film), as well as her personal correspondence and biographies. Austen passed away in her early forties. In an interview, the actress described Austen as an extraordinary woman. She believed that "Sense and Sensibility" (1811) was a novel about Austen's own personal life, and that Anne needlessly pushes away the man who becomes her only love. Hawkins sincerely admired her character.
