When Richard Harris turned down the role of Scrooge, Rex Harrison agreed to take it, but ultimately he was unable to film due to his commitment to a theatrical production. Notably, Harrison was having an affair with Harris's wife at the time (she later married Harrison).
Albert Finney also initially didn’t want to play Scrooge, but changed his mind after reading the script.
