Short description
The story of the conception of a new British weapon for smashing the German dams in the Ruhr industrial complex and the execution of the raid by 617 Squadron 'The Dam Busters'.
What's left behind the scenes
- Richard Todd, who played the main role, participated in the airborne assault during the Normandy landings in 1944.
- The screenplay was based on Paul Brickhill's book "The Dam Busters" (published in Russia under the title "Flood Germany!") and Guy Gibson's memoirs "Enemy Coast Ahead".
- The musical theme composed by Eric Coates, ("The Dam Busters March") was used in George Lucas's film "Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope." It also contains numerous references to "The Dam Busters," and the scene of the attack on the Death Star almost exactly repeats the film's climax.
- In 2007, the film was restored, with all references to the dog's offensive name removed. Paul Brickhill's book was also originally titled “Nigger!”
- This film appears on television in Alan Parker's musical film “The Wall” (1982) during the song One of My Turns, when the main character Pink goes on a rampage in a hotel room.
