Short description
A former professional dancer volunteers to teach dance in the New York public school system and, while his background first clashes with his students' tastes, together they create a completely new style of dance. Based on the story of ballroom dancer, Pierre Dulane.
What's left behind the scenes
- After a quick read of the script, Antonio Banderas turned down the leading role when he realized the entire film was dedicated to ballroom dancing. The project's producers asked for a few minutes to explain the story behind the screenplay in more detail. After watching a short documentary and meeting Pierre Dulaine himself, the actor finally agreed and signed a contract to participate in the film.
- Young actors who played the roles of the students worked with the real Pierre Dulaine for some time to learn how to correctly perform their dance moves in the film.
- Pierre Dulaine appears in a cameo as one of the judges of the 25th annual ballroom dance competition.
- The majority of the film, including all scenes inside the school and its surroundings, was shot at the well-known private school University of Toronto Schools in the Canadian city of Toronto.
- When the film was released in the Philippines, the promotional posters listed Dante Basco as the film's lead actor.
